Ashley Laureano earns J. Travis Jackson GED Scholarship

Ashley Laureano (center)鈥爋f Mount Pleasant, was recently鈥爌resented with the J. Travis Jackson鈥燝ED鈥燬cholarship during the鈥2014鈥燝ED graduation ceremony hosted by the 草榴社区 Adult Education Department.鈥燭his $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.鈥燤aking the presentation is Malik Latif (left), President of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club and Carolyn Pope, GED Instructor.

Students inducted into National Adult Education Honor Society



A gift from the鈥燱hatley Employee Enhancement Grant鈥recently honored deserving鈥燝eneral Equivalency Diploma (GED) students from 草榴社区 Texas Community鈥燙ollege by inducting them into the National Adult Education Honor Society鈥(NAEHS).鈥燭hose inducted were: (from left)鈥燤axine Spafford, Duane Walker, Susie Smith, Randall Bourgeois, Letisia Rios, Brian Smith, Gracie Martinez, Brian Carr, Iliana Gonzalez, and Ashley Laureano. Poster Contest winners announced

John Updike once noted that anyone seriously interested in doing something better or right will be creative.鈥 On the morning of May 2, while some students were studying for finals, 20 students鈥爂athered鈥爐o compete in the Seventh Annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest.鈥燭he event was held at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

Their object was to convey to well-educated adult judges from our community something that the latter did not already know.鈥 Each of the twenty students had an idea they had developed.

SGA honors outstanding student organizations

The 草榴社区 Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2013-2014 school year. To be eligible for this award an organization must exhibit how it has contributed to the college, community, and the development of its members. Members of Alpha Mu Chi are pictured along with PTK Advisor Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner and Rico Willis, Director of Student Activities and Multicultural Affairs.

Perryman gives $3,000 for scholarship reception

Richard Perryman, (pictured, left) recently presented a $3,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Vice President for Advancement, 草榴社区.鈥 The funds will be used to underwrite the NTCC Foundation Annual Scholarship Reception.鈥 The reception is held on the NTCC campus each fall and allows scholarship recipients to meet the donors who made their award possible. In addition to helping NTCC with scholarships themselves, Richard and Margaret Perryman have been underwriting the Scholarship Reception for more than 10 years.

Lions Club of Pittsburg donates scholarship

The 草榴社区 Foundation recently received an $1,800 gift from the Lions Club of Pittsburg. The donation will provide three $600 scholarships to NTCC students from Camp County. Lions Club President, Allen Weatherford (right) is pictured making the donation to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Vice President for Advancement. NTCC Farmers Market to help you grow local

The next NTCC Farmer's Market is Friday, May 16!

It seems ironic that as little as a generation ago, my grandparents managed to feed their family of eight, either by fishing, hunting, gathering and/or subsistence farming and yet most of our so-called technologically advanced people today would starve if we had to eat only what we could grow. I can remember that my grandparents hardly ever made a weekly trip to the store to purchase any food product that they could grow on their farm.

PTK inducts 27 new members

草榴社区 recently inducted 27 new students into the Alpha Mu Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming.

NTCC holds May commencement

草榴社区 held its May 2014 commencement at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, May 10. Due to the large number of graduates, commencement was held in two ceremonies at 9 and 11 a.m.鈥犫營n the 9 a.m.鈥燾eremony, NTCC awarded 3 Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees, 12 Associate of Arts degrees, and 106 Associate of Science degrees. During the second ceremony, 69鈥燗ssociate of Applied Science Degrees and 107 Certificates of Competency were awarded.鈥燚r.
