The 草榴社区 Rodeo team closed out the fall schedule with a trip to Conroe, Texas for the Sam Houston State University Rodeo this past weekend. Presley Spoonemore led the way for the Eagles with an excellent run in the Breakaway roping bringing home a second place finish.
The 草榴社区 Continuing Education department held its fourth annual 草榴社区 Texas Childcare Providers Conference on the NTCC campus on Saturday, Nov. 9. They hosted 110 attendees.
Theatre 草榴社区, the 草榴社区 student theatre group, will present a play for young audiences December 4-7 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Several weekday matinees will be performed for school children and then there will be two performances for the general public on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2:05 p.m.
The Office of Student Activities, Student Government Association, Social Work Club and The Wesley Fellowship Center are partnering together to host a campus-wide Advent Calendarfood drive to support The Eagle Pantry. On November 1, NTCC鈥檚 Jalyn English, Sam Griffin, Rebekah Reed and Katelyn Cox presented the newest trailer of an honors film, 鈥淪tarlight: Adina De Zavala, and the Making of a Patriotic Supersite,鈥 at the meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Society. The Webb is a collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association, and has been operating since 1974. Lisa Berg, the new Austin-based Education Director of the TSHA, coordinates the activities of the association.
One Night in Memphis, the official and number one tribute to Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash will be appearing live at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 草榴社区 on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Quilts by local quilters hang in the Whatley Center foyer in what is now an annual tradition for the NTCC art department. For the fourth consecutive year, quilters bring their treasured art to share with the community. The exhibit runs from Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Monday, Nov. 25. A reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer, and refreshments will be served.
Outgoing Great Plains Honors Council President, Carrie Pritchett, announced on October 16 the winners of the association鈥檚 2019 election. NTCC鈥檚 Courtney Baldwin won the student election. She defeated two upperclassmen, one from Texas Woman鈥檚 University and the other from Wichita State. She will become the Executive Council鈥檚 Student Representative during the upcoming New Orleans meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council.
The Pineywoods Iris Society recently gave $500 to the 草榴社区 Foundation to provide a scholarship for an NTCC Agriculture student. The group presented the gift when they held their meeting on the NTCC campus.
