The mission of the Department of Chemistry is to provide personal, dynamic learning experiences empowering students to succeed and to explore the scientific principles in the study of matter and the changes it undergoes. We encourage active learning to develop each student's ability to acquire and critically interpret knowledge of basic facts and theories of chemistry, to relate that knowledge to other subject areas, and to communicate their understanding to others.

AVAILABLE DEGREES:
Chemistry, AS

Graduates typically will find employment opportunities in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing sectors. Additionally, scientific research institutions, educational institutions, and government agencies also hire chemists.

 


Chemical Industry: This includes companies involved in manufacturing chemicals, plastics, polymers, and other materials. 

Pharmaceutical Industry: Many chemists work in pharmaceutical companies, developing new drugs and treatments. 

Manufacturing: Chemists are involved in quality control, production, and research and development in various manufacturing industries. 

Research Institutions: Universities and research labs employ chemists for research and development in various areas of science. 

Educational Institutions: Chemistry teachers and professors are needed at all levels of education, from high school to universities. 

Government Agencies: Government agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hire chemists for regulatory affairs, policy, and environmental protection. 

Forensic Science: Chemists can work as forensic scientists in crime labs, analyzing evidence. 

Healthcare: Chemists can work in medical laboratories as lab technicians, analyzing patient samples to help doctors diagnose diseases. 

Other Industries: Chemistry graduates may find employment in fields like food science, agriculture, and environmental science.
