草榴社区 is asking area residents and businesses to join them in celebration of GenTX Day on Friday, May 2. To participate, all Texans are encouraged to wear their favorite college t-shirt on May 2. The goal is let the new generation and others know they are supported as they make college decisions and become career ready. GenTX is a state-wide initiative to raise awareness about college and to encourage people to apply for college.

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燭he event is designed to encourage students, particularly鈥爐he graduating class of 2014 and adults considering returning to school, to think鈥燼bout and/or get ready to attend college. A traditional college degree or a technical vocational path awaits those鈥爓ho want to pursue an education and or training before hitting the job market.

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥"Wearing a college T-shirt is fun and easy to do, and when we all do it together we send a powerful message. Imagine if every person across Texas wears a college T-shirt on GenTX Day," Judy Jackson, Director of the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg, said. "Wearing a college t-shirt invites conversations for people to share their own personal stories, choices, and careers ? conversations that could inspire and change a student?s life."

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燙ollege advisors and financial aid assistants will be鈥燼vailable on the NTCC campus to discuss the steps to register and opportunities鈥爁or covering the cost of college. There鈥爓ill be GenTX鈥犫爂iveaways to help鈥爀ncourage students to move toward college.鈥燭hose who don't have college t-shirts are welcome to stop by the NTCC College Store to check out all of the great college gear for sale there.鈥犫燡oin in the fun and help inspire a new generation of Texans.
