The 草榴社区 Eagles (NTCC) softball team suffered a series of losses this weekend during a tournament held in Longview. The Eagles faced four college teams from three states on Friday and Saturday, with two additional games scheduled for Sunday being canceled because of weather.
Sophomore infielder Jennifer Miller hit the first homerun of the tournament for the Eagles in the fourth inning of Friday?s first game against Lamar Community College, scoring their only run of the game. Saturday?s second game saw the Eagles put up a valiant effort against Alvin Community College, putting the bat on the ball 12 times and鈥爌lacing鈥爀ight runs on the board.鈥燗lizabeth Autre鈥爈ed鈥爐he team with four hits. The Eagles went on to鈥爈ose game one 5-1 and game two鈥11-8.
Saturday?s鈥燾ontest鈥燼gainst Butler Community College (KS)鈥燽egan鈥爓ith Breagan White鈥爌utting the first run of the day on the board for the Eagles. In game two Taylor Van Kirk drove Emilee Burkhardt in to score the Eagle?s first run and only run of the game in the bottom of the first.鈥燞owever, that was the only scoring of the day for the Eagles as they went on to lose the first game 13-1 and the second 9-1.
The losses, while disappointing, provided valuable experience that the team will need heading into conference play this week according to Assistant Softball Coach Amy Meyer.
?These games have helped us get the kinks out and get people placed where they need to be. We are ready for the conference to start? Meyer said.
